Sword with req. 3
I have a couple of questions. I bought a light-blue longsword from someone in Ascalon yesterday. It appears he had it crafted and then applied mods to it, but I don't think there is any way you can tell. Anyway, it is req. 3, 10-14 damage, sundering 10/10, I want to say +15% in a stance, and also some sort of armor bonus. My first question is can I salvage the 10/10 sundering off of it? Second, I took it up to Sorrows Furnace and my warrior, who has swordsmanship of 4 and strength 10, was hitting everything for like 4 damage, where I expected at least 10 damage. Can anyone give me some clues as to why my damage output was so low? You're probably wondering why I have such weak offensive stats, but I also have smiting at 11 and tactics at 12, so i can deal smiting damage and use stances to avoid damage while all the aggro is on me. Trust me, if you want to farm Sorrows Furnace, having a tank who takes all of the damage while requiring very little healing is ideal. Anyway, I greatly appreciate any answers provided.

It's probably because the damage you were dealing is so low that the enemy's ARMOR LEVEL is high enough such that the damage you actually deal to them is only 4.

It'll only do it's 'normal' damage against targets with 60 armor level.

1. No, you can't salvage.
2. First, it's 10-14 damage before armor. With armor it'll drop significantly. Second, read the following link about the relation between weapon attributes and weapon damage. At lvl 4 you're only doing 50% of stated damage anyway. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...nics-id674.php 3. If you're aggroing in SF, being a gear/keg tank is better. |

Thanks for the responses. I see in the link how I'd only be doing 50% damage. The only thing that link doesn't take into account is Strength, which adds armor penetration. I don't know how much penetration you get with lvl 10, but that should have a positive damage effect. It doesn't seem right that I have higher attributes than the weapon requires, yet only hit with 50% effectiveness, but as you show, that is how it works. I'd almost be better off using my req. 12 axe with 3:1 vampiric, hitting for 2 damage +3 life steal. You are also right, I don't attack once I am in SF, I was only using the sword when in Grenths. I guess I'll just have to remain fairly useless before the party gets into SF...

The armor penetration from the strength attribute is only applied to attack skills, and not regular attacks.
